Our mission is to revolutionise the way you approach deck design and construction, offering a new solution for you architectural projects.
Inspired by the natural efficiency of honeycomb structures utilized by honeybees in their hives Silca Grate was created.
The hexagon design along with integrated strengthening channels, creates a super-strong and consistent substructure (subfloor) spreading load across the decking element and into the joist structure below.
The 50mm diameter cells provide a consistent structural purchase beneath the entire underside of the tile, (not point loaded) which in turn results in a firm and solid feel underfoot.
Silca System is a rigid decking element capable of sustaining heavy deck materials, such as natural stone, porcelain or concrete pavers thus giving you more decking options than previously available. We have Design Statements, PTS and guides to assist in your design specifications.
Silca System Grates measure 400mm x 450mm x 38mm and are manufactured here in New Zealand from 100% recycled materials. Green construction product.
Composed from an engineered polymer PCABS with UV stabiliser. This ensures an incredibly durable and long lasting decking component, designed to standards AS/ZNS1170 NZS3604 and compliance with B1/VM1, our innovative system ensures peace of mind for both residential and commercial applications.
Permeable site coverage and level entry through threshold can also be achieved without the need for channel drains or fall in the finished surface.

- Silca System used in conjunction with pavers, provides a maintenance free, durable raised patio, without the continuous maintenance hassles and ongoing costs of wooden decking.
- The engineered design spreads load through the surrounding area and transfers load onto the joist and structure beneath in an engineered format.
- When checking out or cutting around obstacles in the deck element e.g. downpipes, vents, hand rail posts etc. Silca Grates can be easily cut with most power saw types and still retain its structural properties, hence providing support for cut paving around those tricky areas. (Cut paving being very susceptible to failure when spaned between joists.)
- Minimal surface area contact between Silca Grate and joist allows maximum airflow to assist with ventilation and drying of the subdeck structure. (Pavers laid direct onto joist would hold moisture and encourage timber swelling/movement under the paver and other issues, leading to a rocky,
uneven surface.) - Silca grates brace the entire decking structure as a unit. Six 75mm screws per unit, creates a structural element suitable for heavy surface laments.
- Very little if any nogging is required when using Silca System.
- From a design point, Silca System allows for a variety of laying options as paver edges do not need to line up with joists. Full grout joints or drainage gaps can be achieved wherever you like. Even a French Laid pattern can be achieved.
- Silca System provides a rock solid, flat surface on which to lay almost any type of paving.
